Happy fall!

As some of you know, on October 21, 2019 I was presented the O.R. Bell Laureate award by the Past Student Association of my alma mater, St Jago High School.

I was so honored and humbled, it was surreal. I had the opportunity to interact with amazing people and was so proud of the accomplishments of the other honorees, Dianne Clarke and Mark Clarke.

I met the honorable Ms. Una Clarke (former congresswoman of Brooklyn) and her daughter, current U.S. Congress woman Ms. Yvette Clarke.   Yvette, gave a speech and she talked about a T-shirt she saw while on trip in Ghana with the words, “I am my ancestor’s wildest dreams,” and this really resonated with me.  I don’t even have to look too far back to see how far I’ve come; my own maternal grandmother who died just 2 short years ago never learned to read or write. I am actually my immediate family’s wildest dreams.

During my acceptance speech, I shared one my favorite Maya Angelou quotes; “When you learn, teach. When you get, give.”  With the blessings I have received in my own life, I am now following that admonishment.

  1. I have recently created the Caribbean Society of Lifestyle Medicine in order to bring life-changing Lifestyle Medicine education to health professionals of the Caribbean, so they may in turn share this information with their patients.
  2. I’ve also launched the Dr. Diane Thompson Scholarship Fund which will assist qualified St. Jago students with tuition, books, and other expenses.

I thank you all for your support and I encourage you to help me as I try to make a difference in lives of others.

Please check out some of the photos.

I wish you great health.
